TAKUM, a Hebrew acronym for tikkun u’mishpat, “mending and justice,” fills an urgent need in the contemporary Jewish community by creating a global learning initiative dedicated to Judaism and social and environmental justice. We believe that such learning must be paired with action, as the midrash says: “Study is greater than deeds alone, for study leads to deeds” (Shir Hashirim Rabbah 2).

Mission Statement

TAKUM’s founders are dedicated to engaging deeply with the Jewish textual tradition—ancient and modern—seeking to develop thoughtful Jewish approaches to issues of social and environmental justice in our day. TAKUM seeks to advance a holistic approach to Jewish life and learning by weaving together study and service.
